Psychology Service to support people with their sexual wellbeing

Published on:

Our psychology service supports people who have worries or difficulties with sex, intimacy or relationships. Talking about it is the first step to feeling better.

Introduction

Many people have times when sex does not feel the way they want it to. This is common, and it can often be helped. Our psychologists listen without judgement and work with you at your own pace.

You can ask for a referral at your visit, or tell any member of the team that you would like to talk to someone.

What we can help with

  • Low desire or difficulty becoming aroused
  • Erection, ejaculation or orgasm difficulties
  • Pain during sex
  • Worries about your body, gender or sexuality
  • Anxiety after an STI or HIV diagnosis
  • Difficulties in relationships

What to expect

Your first appointment is a chance to explain what is happening and what you would like to change. Together we agree a plan. This may be a few sessions of talking therapy, practical exercises to try at home, or a referral to another service.

Privacy

Your sessions are confidential. We only share information with others if you agree, or if someone is at risk of serious harm.

Ask your clinic about the psychology service. It is free to NHS patients.
